Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken in response to a condition on the granting of planning consent for redevelopment. Sites within the housing development area included the site of Ivy Cottage, which appeared to have dated from the early 19th century and part of the former bank and ditch boundary between Tithe Map Fields 83 and 84, possibly dating from the medieval period. Within the football ground development area was the site of structure shown on the 1802 plan and the 1842 Tithe Map. Whilst no archaeological finds or observations had been made in the vicinity of Old Tiverton Road, it was noted that this road followed the general alignment of a Roman road. The line of Blackfriars conduit, which was constructed in the mid-13th century, was thought to have followed Old Tiverton Road. [Au(adp)] |
