Abstract:
A desk-based assessment was carried out on 6 areas of proposed development, which lay on the immediately south of the medieval settlement at Redditch. Potential medieval archaeology and several buildings of possible interest were identified within Areas 4 and 5. Although no remains had been identified by this assessment there was a possibility that hitherto unsuspected archaeology dating to the prehistoric or Roman periods might have been present within the development areas. It was likely that such deposits would have been damaged by the foundations of the 19th and 20th century buildings on the site and by the 1970s Kingfisher Development. Nevertheless it was possible that such deposits may still have partially survived and may have been affected by any ground intrusive activity, where such activity extended beyond the depth of any Modern Made Ground.
