Abstract: |
Foundation trenches excavated for a small extension at a site within Stafford were inspected. A few fragments of ceramic roof tile were noted but were not retrieved, whilst a fragment of 17th century clay pipe with a maker's stamp, a sherd of Cistercian ware and a sherd of glazed oxidised plate or bowl were recovered from the skip. Generally there were few finds, although it was noted that more would almost certainly have been recovered if the entire excavation process had been observed. No 19th or 20th century finds were observed. It was concluded that some of the deposition at the site was likely to have taken place in the 16th century or earlier. [AIP] |
