Abstract: |
The former Brentford Gasworks was proposed for large-scale redevelopment. The sites archaeological potential for the Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age and Roman periods was defined as moderate to good. In particular, the Roman Road from London to Silchester may have crossed the southern fringes of the site. The southern part of the site was believed to have had a good archaeological potential for the medieval and post-medieval periods. Past post-depositional impacts on the site had been extremely severe. It was thought that archaeological deposits no longer survived in the northern part of the site. Any archaeological deposits, which had survived on the southern part of the site, were likely to have survived only in isolated 'pockets'. [Au(abr)] |
