Abstract: |
This survey mapped a complex and extensive series of features, including lynchets, woodland and field boundaries, holloways, quarries and a possible Bronze Age round barrow. Analysis revealed late prehistoric fields, subsumed in part by a later series of medieval strip lynchets. In conjunction with a study of early maps, this survey revealed in some detail the historic development of the woodland, as well as the changing character of the adjacent farmland, from the early 17th to late 19th centuries.
