Abstract: |
An extension was planned for the Art Gallery and Museum, Lichfield Street, Wolverhampton to lie to the north of the current building. This, together with associated landscaping for a proposed sculpture park, would affect below ground deposits. The site lay in the centre of Wolverhampton in areas that it was suggested were once part of the Saxon, medieval and post-medieval settlements and were therefore deemed to be archaeologically sensitive. As a result, the report assessed the significance of the archaeological resource in the area, and suggested mitigation strategies to prevent unnecessary damage to significant archaeological deposits, during the proposed developments.
