Abstract: |
A desk-based study formed the maritime archaeological component to an overall environmental impact assessment, searching for evidence on both the seabed and coastline. This recovered evidence of a Neolithic settlement, several Bronze Age finds including a boat and other evidence of trade, probable prehistoric land surfaces, a Roman fort, villa and naval presence, a Roman Saxon shore fort, Anglo-Saxon town and port and several post medieval wrecks. In conclusion, the maritime archaeological potential for the area was high. [AIP] |
