Abstract: |
A desk-based study was undertaken to assess the archaeological implications of proposed motorway improvements along the M40 at Handy Cross as part of a wider programme of Environmental Assessment. A number of improvement options were considered and only one, an off-line improvement, was considered to be potentially detrimental to a number of archaeological sites. These included a number of recent field boundary banks and an area of Gillfield Wood, the western part of which was in existence in 1822. The cropmarks of a rectangular enclosure were also identified adjacent to this route option. [AIP] |
