Abstract: |
Excavation within the west end of Kenton parish church revealed evidence for a long aisleless nave, preceding the present nave and aisles of the 15th century; a south aisle was added to it, perhaps in the late 14th century. The area was packed with burials. The earliest, of unknown date, were probably in shrouds; the latest, dating to the 18th and early 19th centuries, were in coffins and brick-lined vaults. Also found were a series of late medieval tiles and evidence for medieval bell-casting. [Au(abr)] |
