Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a noise bund and tree-planting area, associated with a residential development near a motorway. Excavations undertaken in advance of earlier development phases had recorded Middle Bronze Age pits, Iron Age activity and Iron Age/Romano-British field boundaries. During the evaluation, a number of undated ditches and plough scars were revealed. Two gullies, probably modern in date, were found, and a fragment of horseshoe was recovered. Probable prehistoric flints and a fragment of prehistoric pottery were found. It was concluded that significant settlement was unlikely to have occurred at the site, and that the ditches may have performed a boundary function. [AIP] |
