Abstract: |
Two evaluation trenches were excavated as an evaluation prior to the proposed residential redevelopment of the site. At the southern end of the trench two medieval features were seen sealed by a possible ploughsoil, a north-south ditch and a flint filled cut. Also seen in the trench were several 19th century brick foundation structures and service drains, possibly associated with a late 19th century sawmill. Trench 2, located 40m south of the Grand Union Canal. Several pits filled with broken earthenware mineral water and ginger beer bottles were recorded, as were more brick foundations, associated with the sawmill and later chemical works. [Au] |
