Abstract: |
An evaluation ahead of residential development established the presence of medieval features on the site. Although no structural remains were located, the discovery of ditches or gullies, rubbish pits and at least one posthole, indicated that the site was in the vicinity of an area of occupation. The quantity and distribution of datable material recovered at this stage was insufficient to lead to any conclusions as to the exact dates or sequence of the deposits but it was possible that the site spanned several centuries from the early medieval period. The focus for the activity appeared to have been at the front of the plot, adjacent to Church Road, supporting the notion that it was an important route through the early village. [Au(adp)] |
