Abstract: |
An assessment was undertaken to assist in the development of a long-term strategy for preservation and management of the archaeological and palaeoenvironmental remains beneath alluvium in the Trent Valley, currently under threat from a wide range of modern activities, most notably the quarrying of sands and gravels which are partially overlain by alluvium throughout much of the valley. A synthesis of current knowledge of the geomorphological development of the Middle and Lower Trent Valley was compiled, four regional case studies were undertaken and a model of the main processes, both natural and anthropogenic, through which the valley developed, drawn up.
