The abstract describing the content of the publication or report
Abstract:		 Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of an office development identified that it appeared to have lain within marginal or waste land until the post-medieval period. Throughout much of its history, the area had been part of a low-lying flood plain, and was thus unlikely to have been occupied. The site had been drained and used for culitivation in later post-medieval times, and was first developed in the early 20th century. Artefacts and archaeological sites recorded in the surrounding area included a Palaeolithic handaxe, Mesolithic and Neolithic flints, a Bronze Age cremation urn, Bronze Age axes, a possible bowl barrow, Iron Age and Roman coins and an early Saxon cemetery. However, most of these sites lay well away from the proposal area. It was concluded that, although the site was of low archaeological potential, it nonetheless merited an evaluation in view of the large area which it covered. [AIP]
