Abstract:		 Desk-based assessment of a light industrial site, the use of which was under review, identified that little or no systematic archaeological field work had occurred in the vicinity. This suggested that the Sites and Monuments Record may not have contained a reliable representation of the archaeological record for the area. No prehistoric or Saxon material had been recorded within 1km of the site, although a concentration of Roman material lay to the north, at Kingsbury. The SMR contained a wealth of entries relating to the medieval manorial and settlement pattern in the area around Kingsbury; it appeared likely that the study site had lain within fields at this time. Cartographic evidence indicated that the site had lain within a landscaped park by 1894-6, and that it had been developed for industrial use by 1935. It was concluded that, although the general area had a limited archaeological potential, the size of the site and the absence of archaeological material from the vicinity suggested that it had a low archaeological potential. It was further concluded that, in the event of a planning application relating to the site being submitted, no further archaeological work would be necessary. [AIP]
