Abstract: |
A survey was undertaken as part of an assessment for the Countryside Commission's Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The main archaeological sites identified comprised Moorhigh Mine which was probably well established by the 17th century; mine workings at Moorhigh Rake, Lees Rake/Rogers Pipe, Lees Rake and Dove Rake/ Swindales Vein or Burford Old Vein; and a possible round barrow. A number of minor features were also identified including trackways, a boundary stone, a limestone quarry and a limekiln. [AIP] |
