Abstract: |
The assessment concluded that there was a moderate potential for remains of medieval date, although the site was some distance from the historic medieval core, which was concentrated around the church and market place to the west. Map evidence suggested that much of the site might have remained as an open field for most of the historic period. Since the late 19th century the greater of the site had been used for the manufacture of sheep dip and pesticides with the consequence that the eastern half of the site suffered from very heavy ground contamination. The western half of the site was not directly involved with the manufacturing process so that the ground was not so heavily contaminated there. [Au(adp)] |
