Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken of the site in response to a conditoin upon planning permission for the redevelopment of the site. The assessment concluded that the the site had: a good archaeological potential for the later prehistoric periods (Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age) (several archaeological excavations on the gravel terrace, on which the site was located had produced evidence of settlement and agricultural activity from these periods, including flintwork, ditches, pits and related features, a hut circle and four-poster building, and a landscape boundary); a moderate potential for the Roman period (although no Roman material had been recorded within 250m of the study site, Roman pottery and pits containing possible crenations and domestic rubbish had been found in the vicinity); a low archaeological potential for all other past periods of human activity. Because of past post-depositional impacts it was considered unlikely that the proposed development would have any archaeological impact. On the basis of the available data, the report did not recommend the implementation of any further archaeological or geoarchaeoloigcal mitigsation measures. [Au(adp)] |
