Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of a site proposed for flood alleviation works and mineral extraction, with associated planting, revealed that no known archaeological sites would be affected by the development. In the surrounding area, cropmarks which were likely to represent ditches and enclosures of Bronze Age or later date had been recorded. Excavations at a nearby site had revealed evidence of Neolithic settlement, as well as an Iron Age farmstead and further undated prehistoric material. Part of a 13th and 14th century occupation site had also been recorded nearby. It was concluded that areas where proposed works could affect archaeological deposits should be subject to survey and evaluation. [AIP] |
