Abstract: |
The assessment did not reveal any finds, features or structures of archaeological significance within the site. Two flint handaxes of Palaeolithic date had been recovered adjacent to the site. There was, however, no evidence of in situ Palaeolithic deposits within the site. The chance find of a Mesolithic axe at 115 Belswains Lane reflected the potential for sites of this date in the Gade Valley. An undated assemblage of flintwork at 184 Belswains Lane may have indicated Neolithic or Bronze Age activities close by. No buildings or structures were known to have existed on the site prior to 1873 and all the buildings extant until recently dated from the 1930s or later. [Au(abr)] |
