Abstract: |
<summary>Recording was undertaken following damage to a number of unexcavated barrows on King Barrow Ridge by the fall of trees during the major storms of October 1987 and January 1990. Partial sections through the barrows and the underlying soils were revealed in tree-throw holes; these were recorded and sampled for both molluscan and pollen evidence, and artefacts recovered. The environmental information enabled a fuller picture of the landscape of the King Barrow Ridge in the later Neolithic/Early Bronze Age to be formed. A review of previous work on the Ridge, combined with the analysis of the artefacts - which are mainly of Neolithic date - from the barrows, indicated that there had been more Neolithic activity on the Ridge than previously thought. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
