Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during development at the church. The watching brief identified that overlying natural sand and gravel was an extensive disturbed subsoil. At the eastern end of the church the subsoil overlay a possible stone wall. The north wall of the church as identified as cutting through the subsoil and related to extensive restoration of the building. Other deposits recorded included a stone lined well and a number of dumped deposits that were possibly also related to restoration of the church. Finds retrieved included a quantity of 18th and 19th century pottery along with earlier post-medieval and medieval types. A single Saxon sherd was also retrieved. Other finds included coffin fittings, glass, stone and animal bone. [Au(abr)] |
