Abstract: |
Six trial trenches were excavated prior to the proposed residential development of the site. The three trenches in the western half of the site showed natural layers overlain by 19th and 20th century deposits and structures. The eastern-most E-W trench revealed 16th and 17th century buildings and an 18th century drainage system. The middle E-W trench showed a continuation of the 18th century drain, and an 18th/19th-century wall backfilled with kiln furniture material. The final trench in the SE corner of the site contained 18th and 19th century buildings and prehistoric features cutting the natural alluvial sand. [Au(abr)] |
