Abstract: |
Geomorphological and earthwork surveys were carried out at the proposed site of an extension to a quarry. The geomorphological survey recorded several linear depressions, one of which had a narrow causeway on its southern side. A number of the depressions were thought to represent localised shifts in the course of a channel known as the Cow Way Drain. Others may also have related to the drain, but it was equally possible that they represented an eastwards migration of the River Trent. The earthwork survey recorded traces of ridge and furrow in several parts of the site, as well as a headland, and a low scarp which may have marked the limit of a cultivation block. A field boundary of 1835 could also be discerned as a low earthwork feature. [AIP] |
