Abstract:
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a private dwelling and garage in response to a condition upon planning permission. The development site lay to the east of Haconby on the fen edge. The area was rich in archaeological remains dating from the prehistoric period. North-east of the site was the remains of Bronze Age barrows. The medieval was best represented by the extant remains of St. Andrew's church, dating from the 13th century, and on the southern side of Chapel Street were earthworks representing post-medieval formal gardens. Deposits encountered during the watching brief comprised topsoil, a modern pit, and subsoil. [Au]
