Abstract: |
Monitoring identified at least three phases of activity. The earliest was a segment of the edge of the moat or cutting called 'The Scar'. This was replaced during the medieval occupancy of the castle by a revetment wall with backfill. This may have related to the extension of the castle during the mid-12th century. A small number of sherds of 13th-14th century pottery were recovered from the sediment beyond the revetment wall. [Au(abr)] |
