Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation , consisting of four test pits was undertaken in advance of a proposed residential development. The investigation indicated that the reduction of the rear floor area in the building, down to the level of the front floor of the building would remove all the post-medieval dumped deposits and 0.3m of the medieval layers that lay below c.26.6m OD. Under pinning the walls at the rear of the building would also impact on preserved archaeological deposits down to 25.62m OD. The construction of 17 piles, distributed within the building, would further impact upon archaeological deposits to a considerable depth. The presence of possible stone walls within the medieval layers had an additional implication with regard to the piling activity as they could have adversely affected the piles. [Au(abr)] |
