Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to proposed redevelopment and the construction of a new hard-standing area for two aircraft. The site lay within a landscape of high archaeological potential. Numerous nearby excavations and findspots attested to remains dating from the Palaeolithic to post-medieval periods. Additionally, many unexcavated cropmark sites had been identified in the vicinity, sometimes demonstrating considerable complexity. Although there was a potential for archaeological deposits of prehistoric and later periods to survive on the site, the extent to which these had been disturbed by recent development was a significant factor in determining survival. The extensive service runs and areas of hard standing suggested that little coherent archaeology survived within the site. [Au(abr)] |
