Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of an area of peat, which was removed for engineering purposes prior to the construction of a building. The peat deposit lay near the position of a limekiln, marked on a map of 1889. During the watching brief, post-medieval pottery, brick fragments and a sherd of medieval cooking pot were recovered. No archaeological features or deposits were observed. It was concluded that the limekiln had probably lain outside the excavated area. [Au(abr) |
