Abstract: |
Trial trenching, auger, magnetometer and metal detector survey were undertaken on a site proposed for spoil disposal from construction work on the A140 road improvement. The location of cut features of a known medieval moated site were confirmed by magnetometer survey. Finds from fieldwalking included worked and burnt flint, and medieval and later pottery. Medieval sherds were most numerous close to the moat itself. Post-medieval building material concentrated in the area of the moat implied leveling of the area. The moat itself was trenched and augered but the expected southern arm of the moat ditch was not located. [AIP]\n |
