Abstract:
<summary>A watching brief was maintained during groundworks for the construction of a detached garage at the Manor House, Baynard's Castle, located within the area of the Scheduled Ancient Monument of Baynard's Castle (Humberside 140). The groundworks, limited to a depth of less than 0.5m below the present surface, identified no significant archaeological features, although fragments of medieval flat roof tile recovered indicated that the manor and other nearby structures had tiled roofs in this period, unlike the 17th century manor houses which were recorded as having thatched roofs. An assemblage of 18th to 19th century pottery fragments was also recovered. {italon}AIP{italoff}
