Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in advance of the proposed construction of a mix of private apartments, affordable housing, commercial units, gardens and surface parking. The report concluded that the study site had a low archaeological potential for all past periods of human activity. It was clear, from the results of a geotechnical investigation, that the natural sands and gravels on the study site had undergone massive truncation, probably at the time the existing college buildings were constructed in c.1935-1952. Because of the level of truncation on the site it was considered extremely unlikely that any significant archaeological remains would now be present. Due to the extent of past post-depositional impacts it was assessed that the proposed development would not have any archaeological impact. On the basis of all the available information the implementation of any further archaeological mitigation measures was not recommended. [Au(adp)] |
