Abstract: |
The 18th to 20th century tiled floor to the main chamber of the conduit was removed, revealing a Tudor brick floor, brick sump and lead cistern with an outlet pipe. In the 18th century, another outlet was added to the lead cistern either as a replacement or as an overflow. The 18th century work involved the removals of the west sump wall, brick floors and the conduit west wall. When the conduit system was closed down in the late 19th century, the sump was filled in and a new outlet added and a tile and brick floor laid in the main chamber. A pit was dug through the tile and brick floor in the 20th century in an attempt to removed the lead basins. [Au(abr)] |
