Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken on the excavation of four ground beam trenches. Trench 4 had archaeological features in its base and these were investigated archaeologically. The earliest archaeological features consisted of mid 13th-mid 14th century linear ditches. A circular 15th century rubbish pit was recorded. Sealing the medieval features was a possible gravel yard surface. Truncating the gravel surface was a 17th-early 18th century rubbish pit and an 18th century drainage gully. An alluvial layer sealed the earlier features. A number of layers containing demolition material were dumped on to the site, on which the brick floor of a 19th century structure was built.
