Abstract: |
Although the historical assessment emphasised the historic significance of the site as the location of an earthwork castle, few surviving earthworks and certainly no structural evidence could be cited as physical evidence for this feature. The evaluation located no feature or artefactual remains of any historical significance. It would seem possible that the earthwork of the castle had been slighted and spread at some point in the past, obliterating any remains within the plot. Limited building recoding of Building B, a putative bastle structure, and archaeological monitoring of groundwork progressed over plots 1 to 3. No archaeological features or artefactual material from the medieval period were located during this monitoring and it was surmised that either features below or adjacent to the farm ranges were completely erase or the site of the castle lies elsewhere on the plateau.
