Abstract:
Land cleared and set aside for development at 69a Fulham High Street and 423 New Kings Road was investigated by two trial trenches. Several features were recorded cut into the brickearth, these were interpreted as pits and a possible post hole; pottery from these was dated to AD 1600-1700. These post-medieval features had been severely truncated by later building of brick foundation walls associated with properties to the east of the old King's Arms public house. Two foundation walls were recorded which probably dated to between the late 17th and 19th centuries. These walls were both orientated approximately north/south and perpendicular to New Kings Road, but they were not parallel and each was from a separate structure. Between the two walls was a brick paved surface and drain, this was interpreted as a surface for a passageway that may have led into a yard. Large pits associated with the 1888 demolition of the King's Arms and with modern activity had truncated much of the earlier post-medieval remains. [Au(adp)]
