Abstract: |
The evaluation was undertaken in area which lay close to archaeological remains which dated mainly from the Anglo-Saxon and medieval periods. Pottery of Bronze Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon date had been previously found in the immediate vicinity of the site. A geophysical survey of the area recorded magnetic anomalies that probably represented buried pits and ditches, two features were tentatively identified as kilns. In consequence six trenches were excavated to test for the presence of archaeological deposits. Two gullies and four ditches, representing post-medieval agricultural activity were identified. Additionally, a well that had been backfilled was identified. All deposits were sealed by the present ploughsoil. [Au] |
