Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out at a site which had been heavily ploughed during WWII. The medieval moated manor house of Down Barnes, a Scheduled Ancient Monument, lay immediately to the NE. Three trenches were observed, and sherds of post-medieval pottery and tile were found. No archaeological features were present. It was concluded that any medieval settlement may have lain on higher ground nearby.[AIP] |
