Abstract: |
The assessment showed that the site lay within an area of significant archaeological activity. An emphasis on late prehistoric to the medieval period was identified. The site appeared to have been under cultivation as common land throughout the medieval period until the construction of the Royal School for the Blind in 1901. The proposals for the major new buildings mainly lay within the footprints of the buildings to be demolished, other lay in the footprints of buildings already demolished. However, the proposal for minor buildings (including garages etc) indicated some building on new land. [Au(adp)] |
