Abstract:		 An archaeological fieldwalking survey was undertaken over the site of a proposed development. The distribution of archaeological material suggested that there had been human activity in the area since at least the Neolithic period. Worked lithic material and burnt flint concentrated in the south of the area suggested that this was a focus of activity within the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age. Finds of Roman and medieval ceramics attested to the continuing occupation of the surrounding area, but none of the material was so densely distributed as to suggest large-scale or permanent settlement within the survey area. It was suggested that the area was possibly utilised for small-scale agricultural purposes or grazing for the larger part of these periods. Finds of post-medieval pottery and ceramic building material were numerous and may have related to a structure having been positioned within or close to the survey area. [Au(abr)]
