Abstract: |
The watching brief was undertaken within a site which lay within the core of the medieval village close to the wayside cross, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. No features or artefacts were observed with the exception of a complete profile of a Saxon vessel recovered from the interface of the topsoil and the natural sand within the western north-south aligned trench. The vessel was of a characteristic Early Anglo-Saxon globular form dating from between the early 5th-early 6th centuries AD. Several well abraded sherds of 14th century pottery were also recovered.
