Abstract: |
During the evaluation, eight of the excavated trenches contained archaeological remains predominantly of a Romano-British date, and concentrated in the south-western part of the site. The remainder of the site revealed no archaeological features, Trenches 12 and 13 provided particularly clear evidence that the site lay on the extremities of a Romano-British settlement thought to have existed south west of the site and known from previous finds in the vicinity. The site occupied a crested location some 1km to the south east of the Iron Age hillfort at Wilbury Hill. The metal detecting survey revealed two Roman coins to be present in the central and western parts of the site, along with more recent items of metalwork. [Au] |
