Abstract: |
The evaluation demonstrated that the development site was once subject to extensive quarrying associated with the Birdall family bronze foundry and that clay quarry pits backfilled with discarded mould survived relatively undisturbed beneath the present car par and the floor of the former store. No other features associated with the foundry were found. The evaluation produced a considerable quantity of waste cauldron and skillet mould together with a significant amount of waste metal.
