Abstract: |
A farmstead at the site dated from the early 17th century, but an area of earthworks adjacent to the stone remains of the farm had potential for evidence of earlier settlement. Resistivity and topographic surveys were carried out, followed by trial trenching, and a cellar complex was surveyed. Features found in the trenches included gullies, a collapsed drystone wall, floors and a possible pond, whilst excavation across a terrace showed that it appeared to have been caused by the creation of at least one major land drain.
