Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during topsoil stripping along the route of a gas pipeline. Sites and finds ranging in date from the Lower Palaeolithic to medieval times had been recorded in the vicinity of the pipeline along much of its length. Eleven sites of interest were identified and investigated during the watching brief. Features identified included a cremation, probably of prehistoric date, an Early Iron Age pit containing large quantities of animal bone, and thirty-six linear features. The majority of the latter were either undated or of 20th century date, but others were dated to the late prehistoric, medieval and post-medieval periods. [Au(adp)] |
