Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site, known to have been occupied by medieval buildings. Artefacts of mesolithic to iron age date and evidence of Roman activity had been recorded in the area. During the evaluation, the probable backfill of a Roman quarry pit was identified, and evidence for a Roman building was recorded. 1st-3rd century pottery and fragments of 19th century building stone were recovered. It was concluded that the remaining archaeological deposits should be excavated. [AIP] |
