Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in advance of the proposed residential development of about 14ha of land. The site had been farmland since at least the medieval period and nothing of archaeological interest was recorded within the site. However, in the general vicinity there was evidence for prehistoric and Roman occupation. With this in mind and the site's topography, its archaeological potential was further investigated through a geophysical survey, undertaken by GSB Prospection. Geophysical scanning suggested a low level of background response, with areas of magnetic disturbance close to field boundaries and buildings. One response of interest was noted for detailed survey but there were few features of interest and each anomaly could have been of modern or natural origin. It was considered that the site was of Negligible Archaeological Importance and no further investigation was recommended. [Au(abr)] |
