Abstract:		 Seven trial trenches were excavated. The results were useful in assessing the archaeological potential of the site and demonstrated that although demolition in the 1960s resulted in the wholesale removal of the former workhouse down to and including floor level, pockets of surviving 19th century structures had endured at a shallow depth. Particularly noteworthy and unexpected was the identification of an 18th century pit which pre-dated the construction of the workhouse. [Au(abr)]
