Abstract: |
There was no evidence of any formal use of this area before the medieval period, when the land was probably open ground within the backland area of medieval burgage plots laid out along the west side of Lime Street. This use of the area had continued to the present day, though the ditches which defined the plots had become filled in completely by the 20th century. [Au(adp)] |
