Abstract: |
Six extended trenches were excavated along the length of the pipeline that was identified as having archaeological potential. These produced a range of features of Mesolithic to post-medieval date with a cluster of Mesolithic deposits in one area. One small localized area of buried soil beneath colluvium, which probably predated the Bronze Age, was identified, but did not contain any datable artefacts. A range of prehistoric pits, post holes and linear features were identified, many containing a moderate quantity of Mesolithic struck flint. One ditch contained a single sherd of medieval pottery and another contained a moderate quantity of struck flint. Two post-medieval features, a modern gully and a wall foundation were also identified. [Au] |
